What is A Pipe Nipple

What is A Pipe Nipple?

What is the Nipple?

There are two ends of a pipe nipple, or one end has external threads, that are used to be joined to other pipes or fittings. It is a widely used type of pipe fitting. A pipe nip is a threaded connection or coupling with two ends, used for connecting hoses to heaters or other pieces of plumbing, and is designed to fit straight-ended hoses and pipes.

A combination of pipe nipples is recommended for low-pressure discharge and suction of various compatible liquids, but not for compressible products such as air, nitrogen, or steam.

In addition to the size and structure of the pipe, the kind and number of clamps used, the clamp installation and placement, the temperature, and the product being transported, pipe nibbles are available in the industry’s largest variety of wall thicknesses and materials.

Some Types of Pipe Nipples

Forged Screwed-Threaded Hex Nipples made of steel are the most basic kind of pipe and consist of two threaded ends and an unthreaded center. They are used to join pipes or fittings of like dimensions together.

A hex nipple has a hexagonal bolt form in the middle part of a pipe nipple. When torque, tightening, or loosening is required, the hex portion is handy for a wrench to grab. When installed snugly between two female fittings, a close nipple, also called a running nipple, establishes a tight connection between two pipes or pieces of equipment.

The Hose Nipple is a type of pipe nipple. It is used to join threaded pipes with a smooth hose. The hose barb may be of the same or smaller size as the pipe connector.

Applications of Pipe Nipples

Pipe Nipples are used as Pipe Fittings in a Broad Range of Industrial Applications, Including:

  • Industries involved in chemical processing
  • Petroleum
  • Medical industry
  • Food and beverages
  • Shipyard / maritime / pulp & paper
