Applications Of High Pressure Forged Fittings

Pipe fittings made of forged carbon steel are known as high-pressure forged fittings. The process of forging steel produces extremely strong fittings. Such SS Forged fittings are being used to attach valves, pipes, pumps, and other equipment to form piping systems with a diameter of 2 or 4 inches.  Then after, the heated steel is machined into forged steel fittings.

Because of its higher strength and ability to withstand higher pressure, a forged pipe fitting is of high quality. For threading or machining to socket weld end, the wall thickness is thicker than other types of fittings.

Socket-weld fittings and Threaded fittings are the two main types of Stainless Steel 317/ 317L Forged Fittings. Fillet welds connect socket-weld fittings to pipes, whereas threaded fittings require the pipe to be screwed onto the fittings. It is made from solid steel blocks that are machined to the final required shape within the tolerances set by the relevant requirements. The fitting class represents the maximum pressure that the unit can withstand. The high level of stress bolting two forged fittings together with a gasket between them generates forged fittings.

Advantages of Forged Fittings

  • Due to the tight grain structure, forging is mechanically stronger than a casting.
  • Unlike castings, forgings are not susceptible to cavities, cold pour problems, porosity or shrinkage.
  • Castings typically require more expensive alloys to achieve the high strength required for most fittings.
  •  In comparison to castings, forgings have such a stiffer grain structure that provides more wear resistance and is less likely to become brittle, allowing the forged fitting to withstand higher pressures, more extreme conditions, and also have a longer service life.

Application of High Pressure Forged Fittings

High-pressure fittings have been used in virtually all industrial applications which require complicated threaded connections. It’s also used to test structures in the water. Due to its high quality and higher strength to carry higher pressure, a forged pipe fitting has a wide range of applications. It has a more familiar wall thickness than other types of fittings. The thicker the wall, the more useful they are in the threading or machining of the socket weld end. For long life, high pressure, and zero defects, forged fittings are finished with unmatched consistency and reliability.
